Journal Club

WEEKLY JOURNAL CLUB MEET-UP

Are you interested in discussions about Machine Learning, statistics, and applications to astrophysics and cosmology?

We have a regular Zoom meet-up each Thursday at 1PM Chicago time!

The meeting structure differs by week. Reminder, link, and description will be sent on the #journal-club slack channel each week. We have three distinct categories of meetings:

RESEARCH CODE TECHNIQUE SEMINAR

When : First Thursday of the month

Goal : learn how to use new code packages to improve and broaden your research from the developers themselves! These seminars will typically be given by external speakers and will involve a discussion of background/need, code/package structure, and worked examples of interest to the group.

ML EDUCATION CLUB

When : Third Thursday of the month

Goal : learn “classic” ML techniques with a deep dive into a canonical paper, blog post, or tutorial

Community Hours

When : Remaining Thursdays of each month

Goal : a Deep-Skies-style “office hours”-type meeting — you can bring us a question about a paper you’re reading, a paper you’re writing, some code issues you’re having, or a career question you’re mulling and we’ll do our best to help! Maybe this is a recap of a meeting you’ve attended recently, a new paper you’ve heard about but haven’t fully read and want to know what the fuss is about, or something else we haven’t thought of — no matter what, we’re hoping to strengthen our deep skies community. See you there!
